This feature targets learners without previous
Chinese language learning experience. It provides
a comprehensive pronunciation lesson utilizing
animation, dubbing, “Follow Me” exercises and
text guidance. The system provides all pronunciation
demonstration of standard Chinese by the positions
of mouth, teeth, tongue, oral and nasal cavity.
Learners can imitate while listening, as well
as replay their pronunciation at any time. As
a result, learners can master normative Chinese
pronunciation by continuously contrast to the
system. It is the best teaching model for non-first
language environment.
2. Key Words
and Basic Sentences
This feature consists of carefully selected key
words and basic sentences for Chinese beginners.
3. Follow Me
This feature provides “Follow Me” exercises
for every single sentence. After the learner reads
a sentence, the system will provide a visual-feedback
assessment of their performance. Smile means excellent,
calmness means good, and crying means more efforts
needed. Meanwhile, the learner can compare his
pronunciation with the standard one to discover
differences. It is also designed with slow-down
function which enables the learner to operate
himself while listening and following.
4. Role-playing
(1) The system creates a vividly interactive environment
for speaking and listening exercises. The learner
and the system play different roles in "real-life"
scenarios, together forming dialogues and thus
building the learner's communication skills in
terms of both comprehension and performance.
(2) The system assesses the learner's performance
after each dialogue. Only if his scores achieve
the passed requirement set by his teacher, the
learner can continue to the next unit.
(3) Additionally, the passing requirement can
also be made by the time length of learning. It
means the learner cannot enter into the next unit
until he fulfills the requirement of learning
time.
